TIME SPIDER
2021
Time Spider was born with the idea of using a non-human or non- biological structure as the protagonist of a virtual narrative. In my narrative, it is both a moving monument to silent violence, and it is also a witness to iteration and the embodiment of searing memory of Gaia.
The upper part of Time Spider (2021) is a 3D scan of minerals, and the lower part is deformed drills of the mining machine. My idea is to intersect a natural irregular structure with a sharp and destructive symbol of violence and industrialization, to form an enclosed and elastic complex. The texture seems firm and stiff, but in fact, the two parts interlace and dissolve each other.
The concept of this project was generated from the exploration of the relationship between objects and the environmen. It discusses the interaction of humans and earth with the intervention of technology and media. Although biological boundaries of the human body are inevitable, it is possible to strengthen, extend, and even create more possible experiences sensorial when the constantly updated technology and latest media develop to a certain extent.
What can it be?
“It carries an only command, a huge and sophisticated mission, to advance and explore in an unknown field endlessly.”
——the script of Time Spider
For the future that I can even imagine, when people are no longer confined to the biological torso, may the time spider become a symbol for another sensory system of us to explore the world? How will things replace human beings in new connections and creative activities in the future with the intervention of technology?
